12/29/14 4 hikes down only 96 to go!

Heard a knock on the door this morning and was surprised to see Jon Dorman dressed and ready to ride. John has been a long-time friend from snowboarding and rafting. He has a baby now with another on the way so Mondays and Tuesdays are his days to ride. We had a lively life chat on the way up and it seems things are looking good for the Dorman family.

We drove to the upper lodge with the intention to ride Mt. Herman. Everyone else was skinning, we had to boot pack! Three hours of grueling hiking to get to the false summit. The view from up there is all time so I took a video. The ride down was really fun and I managed to line up a little cliff drop at the end of the run.

After we hiked back to the upper lodge John had to get back to Bellingham. We thanked him, wished him well and headed to the lower side of the resort to hike Mt Hemisphere. Chair 8 does most of the work. Dan,  Phil, and I had about another 30 minutes to get to the top. The boot pack was nice and made it easier. On the ridge the wind was fierce and gusting wildly. We could see our lines from earlier and make notes for tomorrow. The snow was wind-affected and that made it easy to go fast! Two days in a row we have had the best day of the year!!!

Needless to say I was a little over-jazzed on the way home and probably annoyed Julia and Danny on the way down. They were just up for the week and were focused on “not getting hurt”. I recommended the Pumpkin Chicken Waffles from Milano's happy hour and apologized for being such a spaz. Good snow can crack you out!
