It was reported that we had received about eight inches of loveliness overnight. ... (Insert joke here) We knew it would be storming. Visibility would be less than choice, but we decided to head up the road at about 11 AM. Phil, the neighbor from New Jersey, drove his sweet Subaru. Dan and I tagged along and soon we were at the upper lodge. A group on snowshoes made a nice trail for us and we hiked up the road to Artist Point. We could not see our original destination through the storm so we stopped to check our options. The consensus: it seemed winter was finally here! The snow was wet and stuck to all the trees and rocks. It squeaked underfoot and felt like excellent base snow. We still need another 20 inches especially at lower elevations, but it looks like the ski area will open soon.
We had good runs, but today was all about knowing that all of the waiting is finally over! The forecast calls for over an inch of precipitation tonight- looks like I will need to get up early tomorrow!
