The ski area had its annual training weekend and everyone seemed really excited about the upcoming season. There were many friendly faces with stories about their off-seasons, and new folks daydreaming about their first approaching winters in the Cascade Mountains. Training weekend always makes me reflect on my first weekend at the ski area and all of the wonderful people who shared that same experience, many of whom are still great friends in the local area. It seems when you work with people you love doing something you love, your wealth is no longer measured in dollars but by smiles and good vibrations.
|Larkin and Meggan's tiny cabin|
A great friend and co-worker, Larkin Wise, pulled over in the Snowater pullout as I was hitch-hiking up the hill for training. It did not take long to realize he was thumbing it too. Shortly afterwards we were riding up with a new co-worker from California. Larkin is a rad dude from northern Wisconsin who offers Audrey a few rows of his sweet garden in the summertime. On the way up we chatted about the “tiny cabin” he is building. He said it was nearly ready for winter and that the only improvement it needed was his wonderful girlfriend Meggan Simpson to come home soon! I nearly puked it was so cute.
The training went well and definitely had a new twist to highlight the weekend. The flight crew from Airlift Northwest practiced landing to pick up injured guests and coached everyone on best practices. Helicopters are such amazing machines that save lives in the mountains. We are so very lucky to have that kind of resource available! Thank You Airlift Northwest!
